Can I place an online money order in Costa Rica?

Yes. Global Exchange provides an online money order service for your trip to collect at one of our branches in Costa Rica.

Besides getting the best exchange rate for your online exchange (more travel cash for the same price), this service allows you to save time and reduce anxiety, as you will have the currency you need ready for your trip abroad.

Place your order online and pay for it upon collection at the branch of your choice on the day of your trip.

Is the exchange rate at the airport the same as online?

No, the exchange rate applied to orders placed on the website in Costa Rica is more advantageous for you than at our airport branches. This way we can make sure you get the best rates online.

Also, when purchasing your travel money online, you’ll have a wider range of foreign currencies to choose from in comparison to what you will find at the airport.

Where can I exchange currency in Costa Rica with Global Exchange?

Global Exchange is in 2 international airports in Costa Rica: Juan Santamaría Airport in Alajuela and Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia.

What are the opening hours at your branches?

Our airport branches in Costa Rica are open 24/7.

Do you charge any commission?

No, we do not charge any commission for any exchange transaction in Costa Rica. We only charge a trading margin (difference between the price we purchase the currency and what we sell it you for), which will be smaller the higher the amount is, or if you decide to exchange your currency online instead of doing it at our branches (airports, hotels and shopping centres). 

Banks, however, will charge you the trading margin plus a commission, while in Global Exchange we only charge the trading margin.  Compare our margins to those of your bank and add the commission to see how much more you are paying. 

What currencies do you operate with at your branches?

We operate with up to 35 currencies in our branches in Costa Rica.

What payment methods do you accept at your branches in Cost Rica?

In order to offer you the best possible service, we accept different methods to pay for your travel money at our branches: cash, Visa or MasterCard credit and debit cards. 

Do you accept debit/credit cards in transactions?

We accept Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards. 

Do you accept Traveller Cheques at you branches in Costa Rica?

We accept Traveller Cheques from American Express in US dollars, Euros and Canadian dollars. Besides, we accept Visa/MasterCard Traveller Cheques in dollars.

I have been given a 15% off voucher with my transaction, how does it work?

When you exchange your currency at our branches, you receive a discount voucher with a code. You can use this voucher in your next exchange transaction by submitting it at any of our branches in Costa Rica (not valid for online money orders). This discount is applied over the exchange margin and it does not expire.

What happens if I receive a counterfeit note?

The accuracy and seriousness that drive our transactions make this situation very unlikely. However, if this happens, we will proceed to replace the banknote in that very moment.

Besides, for the safety of our Customers, Global Exchange records the serial numbers of banknotes in such a way that counterfeited notes can be detected, or in case a Customer has a complaint, we can check whether it came from our branches or not.

What happens if I notice there was a mistake and I am already far away from a Global Exchange branch?

No matter where you are, Global Exchange is a multinational company with several channels you can contact us through. Our excellence in Customer Service makes us consider and resolve each and every problem that our Customers report us, in the best possible way. 


Do I get Iberia Plus Avios changing my money with Global Exchange?

Yes, you will get Avios for each and every currency exchange at any of the Global Exchange branches in Costa Rica or online.  Do not forget your card when you change your currency at any of our branches or enter your number at the confirmation page of your order on our website for Costa Rica

I showed my Iberia Plus card in my transaction, but I do not see the points added to my balance. Why is that?

Avios can take up to two months to appear on your card record. If passed this time, you still do not see them, please contact our Customer Service Department using the online form.  Please include all relevant information concerning your transaction such as: full name, receipt number, branch and identification document you used.

When I carried out my transaction, I did not have my Iberia Plus card with me. How can I get those points back?

To get the points you are owed from your transaction in our branches in Costa Rica or online, send us a scanned copy of the card and your receipt number to this e-mail: atencioncliente@grupoglobalexchange.com.
